Monsoon Brings Relief For Some, Crisis For Others

Children wading through flooded streets in heavy monsoon rain, highlighting the need for organisations like Spreading Bliss Foundation to support vulnerable communities.

For most of us, the first rain of the season brings a certain kind of joy. The smell of wet earth, a hot cup of chai, and a collective sigh of relief from the brutal summer heat. Monsoon in India feels like a celebration, a season people look forward to all year. But for millions of families living in poverty, the arrival of rain tells a different story.

For them, monsoon is not a season of relief; it's a season of dread.

Rain Brings More Than Just Water

Every monsoon season, India reports thousands of dengue, diarrhoea, and waterborne disease cases within the first few weeks of rainfall. Stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, contaminated water sources lead to stomach infections, and damp living conditions trigger respiratory illness, skin infections and fevers that take weeks to go away. Without access to an NGO providing healthcare support to poor children, most of these families have nowhere affordable and reliable to turn when things get worse.

The Cost That Nobody Talks About

A doctor’s visit, then medicine, then a missed day of work because someone had to stay home and look after the child. Then another family member falls sick, and the cycle continues. For families already surviving on the edge, these are not small inconveniences. They are full-blown crises that arrive every single year without warning.

There is no health insurance to fall back on, no savings to dip into, and often no option to take time off without losing the day’s wages. The medical costs that pile up during the monsoon months can push already vulnerable families even deeper into hardship. What these families truly need is not just medical help but consistent support from a charity organisation providing food and healthcare support throughout the year, not just in emergencies.

Children bear the most visible impact of all. Walking through flooded streets in worn-out footwear, sitting in damp clothes through the school day, and falling sick repeatedly throughout the season. Many children stop attending school during the monsoon season simply because they have nothing adequate to protect them from the rain.

A Raincoat Is More Than Just a Raincoat

It sounds like a small thing, almost too simple to matter. But a raincoat and a sturdy pair of shoes can genuinely change what a child's monsoon looks like. It keeps them dry, lowers the chances of falling sick, and means they do not have to miss school every time the clouds open up.

For a struggling family, that one raincoat also means one less medical bill, one less missed school day, and one less thing to lose sleep over in an already difficult season.

How Spreading Bliss Foundation Shows Up Every Monsoon

At Spreading Bliss Foundation, we believe that sometimes the most meaningful support is also the most practical kind. Every monsoon season, we organise Raincoat and Shoes Drives to make sure underprivileged children have the basic protection they need to stay healthy and keep learning through the rains. As a food distribution NGO for needy families in India, our weekly food drives continue to serve vulnerable children and families throughout the season, because hunger does not pause for any weather.

We also distribute stationery and school supplies to ensure children do not fall behind on their education, and we extend care to stray animals who silently struggle through the monsoon and often go unnoticed.

The rains come every year, and so does the need. What makes the difference is whether someone chooses to show up. If you want to donate online to help poor children in India this monsoon season, your support can help us reach more children and families who are quietly struggling.
