Motherhood is beautiful and every woman has a right to desire it. But often, motherhood is used to suppress women and rob them of their rights. Sentences like ‘Quit your job, you’re a mother now’ are often heard when a woman becomes a mother.
We, at Spreading Bliss, believe in women’s right to choose and also believe that motherhood shouldn’t be an excuse to oppress women. Leaving a job to raise children is a personal choice, but it often leaves women at the mercy of their husbands. A husband can easily stop providing healthcare to his wife if he wants. Hence, it is necessary to think of motherhood in a different way.
Daycare centres provide solutions to women wanting to be mothers and grow in their careers at the same time. Women can leave their children in the hands of professionals while pursuing their career aspirationals. Women also can have time for themselves to indulge in self-care and hobbies. It is also extremely valuable for women who are single mothers, separate from their partners or have lost familial support for inter-caste or inter-religious marriage.
Now, the common response from the conservative section of society would be “This is a selfish way of thinking. Children need their mothers and absent mothers would cause children to learn bad things.”
But daycare centres can actually be beneficial to both mothers and children. Children can learn crucial life skills like sharing, communication, and collaboration. Education also starts early in daycare centres as children learn basics such as counting, colours and animals with games. Challenges and experiences provided at daycare centres allow children to grow and develop problem-solving skills. Finally, staff at daycare centres are trained professionals who understand child development better than anyone else.
What about bonding? Won’t women lose the precious time that they could spend with their children?
Well, daycare centres can actually increase the bond between children and mothers. The labour of a homemaker is 24/7 and there is no time for leisure, which leads to a feeling of exhaustion and irritation. This can lead to anger and frustration being taken out on children.
But when mothers are free to indulge in hobbies and pursue career growth, they cherish the time they spend with their children as they come to appreciate moments they have with their child, which can increase their bond. Children can share their experiences at daycare centres with mothers, which leads to greater communication and as children become more independent due to daycare centres, mothers don’t have to correct or look after them all the time, which leads to more quality time.
SpreadingBliss encourages women empowerment and would love to see women excel in all facets of their lives.
We aim to empower those who truly deserve encouragement. We believe education is the key to liberating a person and that makes education one of our major working areas.
