Each year, on September 5th, students across India celebrate Teacher's Day, in honor of the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a teacher; philosopher, President of India; and the celebrated author of "The True Teacher Is One Who Helps Us Think for Ourselves." The celebration of Teacher's Day gives us the opportunity to pause and think about the influence of teachers, the importance of teachers, not just in helping individuals be successful; but also in shaping the future of our society.
1. Teacher as Guide: Not just Provider of Knowledge
Teachers are not just providers of knowledge, they are a guide through life. A good teacher teaches things about life you will not see on the syllabus; compassion, perseverance, resilience, diligence. A teacher does not only work on shaping and developing your intellect but also your character.
2. Teacher as Catalyst: Fostering the confidence and creativity of students
Sometimes just one word of affirmation from a teacher gives a student who was reluctant to learn confidence in their abilities; a well placed question may trigger a creative thought long after they have been in that teacher's class. Most people have a special teacher they can remember who believed in them when they had doubts or did not believe in themselves; and that one belief created a possibility for further growth!
3. Teacher as Educator: Developing the educators and citizens of tomorrow!
Teachers do not just teach the children today but create and cultivate the young minds into responsible citizens and active participants in society. Although teachers promote creativity, critical thinking, and compassion so that their students succeed in tests, they are also developing a human being that is accountable for their future and better equipped to navigate through life successfully; and that ultimately can foster the pillars of society they live in. To sum it all, teachers are nation builders!
4. Role Models in Daily Life
From how they conduct themselves to how they instill fairness within the classroom, teachers are role models. Children learn values through teachers, and many of those lessons live longer than a formula or fact.
5. The Quiet Architects of Change
Every profession, doctors, engineers, artists, scientists, have been shaped at some stage by a teacher. Teachers are the quiet architects of achievement in knowledge and ethics that endure through generations.
On Teacher's Day, let us honour not only the teachers we had throughout our schooling, but also the concept of teaching as an agent of change. Behind every confident child, every dreamer, and every achiever there is a teacher who believed, supported, and nurtured. So on this day, let's take a moment to say thank you to the teachers in our lives.
At Spreading Bliss Foundation, we believe that teachers are the guiding lights who shape not just individuals, but entire communities. Today, and every day, we celebrate their wisdom, compassion, and dedication to building a brighter tomorrow. Happy Teacher’s Day 2025!
